FERRANTI ELIMINATES 630 JOBS IN FIRST ROUND OF PLANNED CUTS

Ferranti International Plc duly announced the first job losses of a total of 1,600 to go in the next two years. At its Manchester site, 150 people in the engineering, administration, corporate information technology and training areas got their cards on Friday, while the transfer of manufacturing activities from Cwmbran and South Manchester to Oldham will affect 150 staff – all 150 will however be offered new jobs at Oldham. 200 more engineering and central services positions will be lost at Cwmbran, with a further 115 cuts within the Ferranti Strategic Management Systems businesses at Bracknell and Portsmouth. A final 15 losses from the engineering and manufacturing departments at the Dalkeith, Scotland plant were also announced.
