Following the completion of a project worth UKP2.6m for Koninklijke/ Shell-Labatorium, Amsterdam, the Antwerp division of Ferranti Computer Systems has won a further contract from the company, worth UKP780,000, for a process management system to monitor chemical plant research: the order is made up of proprietary products, including two PMS 60s, nine PMS 10s, and 20 Ferranti 20Mb XT-alikes which offer links to Hewlett-Packard automatic analysers, Scanivalve pneumatic multiplexors, Honeywell TDC control systems and an IBM mainframe; the system will support research into energy conversion processes, and aspects of the manufacture of chemical products, which will be used all over the world in Shell Oil’s future plant applications.
