Shipments of mobile handsets to Finnish retailers fell 32% year-on-year in February, according to the Finnish Mobile Communication Suppliers Association. The number of phones fell to just 63,202 units.

The fall follows another fall in January, when handset sales fell 4% year on year. According to the FMCSA’s Pentti Karhu, there’s no evidence of a turnaround yet. Even so, the FMCSA expects annual sales to be 1.3 million.

The major problem for the industry is that new devices and services have not yet fully hit European markets. Most Europeans will not see 3G until 2003, while companies have also been slower than expected to implement services such as multimedia messaging (MMS) and downloadable games.
