It had been projected to raise $1.8bn but could only muster a measly $13.6m from 128 licenses, bought by 17 firms. Top bidders were Bell South Corp’s wireless cable arm, agreeing to pay $6m for 22 licenses, and Metricom Inc offering $1.4m for eight licenses.
