Nynex Corp has now been cleared by the US Federal Communications Commission to buy the former Tel-Optik Ltd, now Private Transatlantic Telecommunications Systems Inc, Washington, marking a big step forward in Cable & Wireless Plc’s ambitious plans for a global digital fibre-optic network. And, with the Japanese now having conceded about two thirds of the companies demands on its efforts to build a trans-Pacific fibre network, the prospects for the company look decidedly bright.
