FCC CLOSE TO APPROVING BELL ATLANTIC-NYNEX MERGER

By CBR Staff Writer

Bell Atlantic Corp and Nynex Corp say they have received a letter from the Federal Communications Commission that signals the final phase of the agency’s review of their proposed merger. The FCC approval became the last hurdle for the merger to clear after the US Department of Justice approved it in April (CI No 3,148). The letter requests documents which have been previously reviewed and cleared by the DOJ, and most of which have already been reviewed by the FCC earlier in this investigation. The FCC has set an expedited timetable which will see its final comments on the matter due by June 26.
