Alameda, California-based Farallon Computing Inc has announced the Fast Ethernet products for the Macintosh market it promised last January (CI No 2,593). The Fast EtherTX 10/100 PCI board for Power Macs with PCI and 10/100Mbps NuBus board for Power Macs, Quadras and Mac IIs are based on 3Com Corp’s Fast Parallel Tasking chip set. Both feature a single auto-sensing 10/100 RJ-45 port and can operate on either a 10Mbps 10Base-T or 100Mbps 100Base-TX network, said the company. The boards are said to support Mac OS, Windows and NetWare and work with standard 3Com drivers for Windows PCI computers. The company has also unveiled its Fast Starlet 100TX/8 Hub which features a repeater chip set licensed from Grand Junction Networks Inc. It is an eight-port, class II workgroup hub that incorporates an in-built expansion slot for adding Farallon Fast 10/100 Bridge and Fast 100/100 Bridge modules. It will connect Macs and iAPX-86 machines with any standard 100Base-TX boards installed. The aforementioned bridge modules are said to be customer-installable and are claimed to provide fast wire-speed data link transmission. The boards are out now and cost from รบ210. The rest of the range will be available in September, with prices to be announced.
