Avid fans of Gary Larson’s unique menagerie of intellectual carnivores, philosophical insects, bespeckled scientists and nerd kids – who won’t need reminding of the 100 Metre Mosey or the veterinarian’s text book where students sail through the chapter on horses because the treatment for every affliction is given as shoot – can now have a new Larson coming up on their screen every day, courtesey of Kirkland, Washington-based Amaze Inc, which has launched The Far Side Computer Calendar, which also includes multi-featured personal appointment diary with the cartoons – which are enhanced with high-resolution, full-colour animation on the Mac or a Windows or MS-DOS micro; no prices, but Larson gets the last word, saying I was attracted to the fact that Amaze was essentially a start-up company, and the people I met were all bright and enthusiastic adding the frosting on the cake, however, was that the Amaze people themselves seemed to have an uncanny resemblance to some of the characters I draw.
