FAMOUS AT LAST: BILL GATES MAKES THE SIMPSONS

By CBR Staff Writer

How much higher can the profile of Microsoft Corp’s chairman Bill Gates get? A Gates-like character could be seen last week on the animated TV series The Simpsons. With bullying henchmen in tow, the character puts pressure on Homer Simpson to give up on his newly formed internet start-up, wrecking his home office in the process. Analysts are divided about whether

such publicity will be harmful or beneficial to Gates and Microsoft. But at least one rival would like to see his own profile skyrocketing in a similar fashion: Sun Microsystems’ Scott McNealy. Speaking to a group of journalists last week, McNealy said: I’ve told those European activists,

next time I’m over there – pie me, not Gates. I need the publicity, he doesn’t.
