Facebook follows Twitter with new Embed option

The posts are being launched with CNN, Huffington Post, Bleacher Report, PEOPLE and Mashable websites.

By CBR Staff Writer

Facebook has started allowing users to share status updates, videos and photos ’embedded’ with other sites and blogs.

It is seen as an effort by the social network company to transition to a Twitter-type communication style.

Facebook software engineers Dave Capra and Ray He said in a blog post: "We are beginning to roll out Embedded Posts to make it possible for people to bring the most compelling, timely public posts from Facebook to the rest of the Web.

"When embedded, posts can include pictures, videos, hashtags and other content.

"People can also like and share the post directly from the embed."

These embedded posts are being launched with CNN, Huffington Post, Bleacher Report, PEOPLE and Mashable websites.

Users have to click on ‘Embed Post’, which will give them a code that can be placed in a blog article.

"Every day, public figures, journalists and millions of regular people share their thoughts on what’s happening around the world on Facebook publicly," added Capra and He.

"Many journalists post detailed commentary about world events from their Facebook timeline."
