Facebook’s image upgrade will now allow photos to be shown larger when clicked on.
Users will be able to highlight their favourite photos which will make them stand out on their timelines.
"Today we’re announcing improvements to the photos section that make viewing photos more enjoyable," said Emily Grewal, Product Manager at Facebook.
When users click photos at the top of their timelines, larger pictures will be shown that fill up the page. The menu will show tagged and shared photos as well as albums created.
"With your Facebook photos all in one section, it’s simple to show friends your favourites," added Grewal. "Click the star button to make important photos stand out."
Facebook has been upgrading its mobile and photo viewing experience since its $1bn purchase of mobile photo app, Instagram, in April this year. The social network then launched its own smartphone photography app named ‘Camera’ six weeks after purchasing Instagram.
The new photo feature is currently available in the U.S. but will begin rolling out globally.
