Facebook has reportedly hired former Apple Maps’ executive Richard Williamson as the company is looking for mobile push.
Citing two unnamed people, Bloomberg reported that Williamson joined Facebook in the past couple of weeks to be a manager within its expanding mobile-software group.
Williamson worked at Apple for over ten years and was the manager who led the Apple’s mapping initiative.
In 2001, Williamson joined Apple as a senior software engineer and was later promoted to senior director of iOS platform services.
Williamson was also in charge to oversee the iOS 6 Maps team, but was removed from the company in November last year during management change, after the launch of mapping product, which received various complaints.
Williamson said to have played a key role in developing Facebook’s recently launched mobile software called Home.
Facebook is reportedly in talks with Apple and Microsoft to bring its recently unveiled Home app to iOS and Windows.
In June last year, Facebook appointed its COO, Sheryl Sandberg, to the board of directors, who is now the social network’s first female director.
Earlier this year, Facebook also hired Sue Desmond-Hellmann to its board, who is the second female director.
