F5 Networks has launched BIG-IP 3900 hardware platform which it claims to deliver increased performance to unify application delivery services on a single device at a lower price point.

According to F5 Networks, the new platform unifies traffic management, web application firewall security, and application acceleration to optimise the end-user experience, simplify device management, and provide deployment options for customers.

The new platform comes with Cache, IPv6 Gateway, Rate Shaping, SSL Offload, and compression functionality. It allows organisations to consolidate their application delivery infrastructure and reduce power, space, and cooling costs, the company claims.

Reportedly, the new BIG-IP 3900 is the first 1U (one rack unit) application delivery controller platform from F5 that supports multiple product modules, which allow mid-sized organisations to build an application delivery network. It supports BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager, Global Traffic Manager, Application Security Manager, WebAccelerator, and Link Controller.

The BIG-IP 3900’s quad-core processor architecture leverages F5’s Clustered Multiprocessing technology to support a unified application delivery system.

Jason Needham, senior director of product management at F5, said: Over the last year, F5 has refreshed its full range of BIG-IP hardware offerings to give our customers more options in choosing a platform that provides the performance needed for their business at a low price point.

Combined with F5’s unique, customisable iRules scripting and open API iControl capabilities, we’re able to offer customers better technology and a better value, as well as the flexibility they need to align IT efforts with their overall business goals.
