EXPANSION OF DESKTOP WORK PROGRAMME BEYOND COMMON DESKTOP

By CBR Staff Writer

The first meeting to expand the scope of X/Open Co Ltd’s Desktop Work Programme beyond Common Desktop will take place in the San Francisco Bay Area on May 4 and 5. It’s open to any firm or organisation that feels it has a valid interest. The focus, X/Open says, is to build a sufficient information base for existing and emerging technologies and user requirements to establish a definitive specification development programme. Any firm wanting to participate should contact chief technical officer Mike Lambert. Meantime Epoch Systems Inc joined X/Open as a specification member for the Systems Management Working Group. It intends to focus on developing standardised interfaces such as back-up and restore. With Epoch, X/Open is focusing on integrating back-up systems with databases and data-centric applications such as document management.
