EXOVISION PUSHES VR ALTERNATIVE TO VIDEOCONFERENCING

By CBR Staff Writer

ExoVision Technologies Inc, the Ottowa, Ontario based developer of collaborative communications products, has announced its virtual reality alternative to videoconferencing. Called VRCom Start-Up, it is a business and personal software tool to enable communication over the internet or intranets using voice and motion. VRCom Start-Up is a non-VRML based tool that includes IPTelephony, object tracking and manipulation and graphical rendering. Users interact in a shared three-dimensional environment in which they are represented by 3D graphical avatars so they can communicate face to face without videoconferencing equipment. In addition, users can share files by adding them to the shared environment , select between resizable and full sized windows, and have control over rendering smoothness and speed. Users can design and lay out their own virtual worlds using the libraries of 3D objects available. The system does not need a dedicated server. The product is available at no charge from www.exovision.com.
