Exodus Communications Inc, the Santa Clara, California-based large-scale web hosting and applications management company, has reported third-quarter net loss of $28.8m on revenue of $67.6m, up from a loss of $17.7m in the year-ago quarter on revenue of $14.5m. Excluding the amortization of intangibles and a one-time restructuring charge totaling $4.2m, the loss for the quarter amounted to $0.29 per share, exactly what analysts surveyed by First Call were expecting. For the nine-month period, net loss was $71.9m up from $45.1m last year on revenue that rose to $140.2m from $31.6m. Total charges for the nine-month period amounted to $5.6m.
Exodus said it added 416 internet data center customers during the quarter – which it claims is its highest quarterly total ever – and added that average annualized revenue per IDC customer rose to $176,000 from $157,000 in the second quarter. Services increased to 34% of overall revenue, up from 20% in the preceding quarter, the company said. Enterprise customers – which the company has been targeting – now account for 39% of total revenue and represent 44% of the overall customer base. á
