EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering has released the AXS-200/855 DSn/PDH/Ethernet Test Set, a handheld multiservice test device, which is said to increase technician efficiency by transitioning from E1/DS1, DS3 or PRI circuit testing to comprehensive ethernet/IP performance testing without swapping modules or test units.

According to EXFO, the AXS-200/855, based on the AXS-200 SharpTESTER platform, provides field technicians with multiservice testing in a rugged, handheld unit optimised for simple testing. It offers a single unit to perform comprehensive dual DSn/PDH and ISDN PRI testing, including real-time insertion of voice traffic and one-time setup of tests to be run across all ISDN channels simultaneously. It also provides turnkey ethernet testing, including RFC 2544, multistream traffic generation and monitoring, BERT and IP connectivity tools.

Etienne Gagnon, vice president of product management and marketing at EXFO, said: “The ongoing proliferation of multimedia services continues to drive the deployment of ethernet device to achieve greater flexibility and cost-efficiencies.

“The reality remains that significant portions of existing networks are based on legacy technologies. EXFO’s AXS-200/855 multiservice tester offers customers a solution that seamlessly adapts to either operating environment (legacy or next-generation)—without sacrificing performance, speed or cost—in order to guarantee the performance and quality of service (QoS) metrics of these services.”
