HealthAxis.com will become the only direct marketer of health insurance information to users of Lycos Inc’s portal site, under a new agreement worth $13m. Between them, the companies hope to develop a co-branded web site offering insurance to individuals and small businesses. The deal runs for an initial 15 months, during which HealthAxis will hand over $6.5m to Lycos. To earn the balance, Lycos has to sell a certain number of policies. The companies weren’t divulging that quota. If Lycos meets its sales figures HealthAxis will renew the agreement for a further 12 months and $6.5m. HealthAxis is a subsidiary of Provident America Corporation. The site is due to be launched in the fall.
