Excite@Home Corp has revealed plans to launch its cable modem net access offering in Germany, in a joint venture with cable operator Tele-Columbus GmbH and its parent Deutsche Bank Investor. The new company @Home Deutschland GmbH, will market the company’s broadband services to Tele-Columbus’s 2.2 million passed homes (about 10% of the market), while encouraging other cable operators to partner with it.
The market for high-speed always-on unmetered internet access in Germany is ripe at the moment. Internet users have been crying out for a way to stop the internet clock that sees them pay for local calls by the minute. Deutsche Telekom AG has started rolling out its T-DSL DSL service, and some internet service providers have started offering unmetered dialup access for exorbitant prices in response.
