EXCELAN OFFERS HIGH-PERFORMANCE 80286- BASED ETHERNET BOARDS FOR INTEGRATORS

By CBR Staff Writer

Excelan Inc of San Jose, California has introduced a new family of Intel 80286-based boards aimed at system integrators which it claims offer the highest performance Ethernet networking solution available today. The new family, the 300 series, is plug-compatible with the 200 series of intelligent controller boards and like the 200 series runs Excelan’s Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol software, applications and socket library, and supports a variety of bus designs. Included with the TCP/IP software are utilities that include Telnet, a virtual terminal emulation package; FTP, a file transfer package; and Mail, an electronic mail package. The first board in the series – the EXOS 301 for systems using Intel’s Multibus – has already been shipped at $2,595, and other boards – the EXOS 302 for Motorola’s VMEbus; the EXOS 304 for DEC’s Unibus; and the EXOS 305 for IBM’S PC-Bus – are scheduled to follow later this year.
