Exar has agreed to acquire Galazar Networks, a Canadian supplier of systems semiconductor and software focused on Carrier Grade transport over telecom networks.

The company said that the combined product portfolio offers telecommunication systems providers a set of both packet-based and time-division multiplexing (TDM) technologies for network architectures.

Pete Rodriguez, president and chief executive officer of Exar, said: The emerging packet-based infrastructure offers telecommunication service providers not only increased bandwidth and manageability but the ability to expand their revenue base via new services. Galazar’s innovative Carrier Ethernet products will allow Exar to offer a broad range of silicon and software solutions to address this rapidly evolving, high-growth market.

Galazar Networks is a semiconductor vendor focused on Carrier Grade transport over telecom networks. Galazar’s product portfolio addresses transport of a range of datacom and telecom services including Ethernet, SAN, TDM and video over SONET/SDH, PDH and OTN networks.

Earlier this year, Exar has acquired Hifn, a developer of applied services processors for OEMs.
