Personal computer wars victim Everex Systems Inc, which hoisted the white flag and filed for Chapter 11 protection on January 4, plans to sell off its Unix operating systems arm, Esix Systems, to an unidentified applications software publisher. Agreement in principle is said to have been signed, but the deal has to be sanctioned by the bankruptcy court before it can go through because it involves company assets, which could take two months. The acquirer is said not to have a track record in Unix, but It is said to be willing to devote more resources to advertising and promoting the Everex version of Unix.
