Regarding the report that the multi-processing version of MIPS Computer Systems Inc’s R4000 RISC has hit trouble, Steve Bennett, European RISC business development manager at Integrated Device Technology Inc, says the current mask for the part – Rev 1.2 – is intended to produce only PC versions; Revision 2.0 of the silicon, which should produce the SC secondary cache – and MC – multi-processing impelmentations will be released this month; meanwhile, Bennett says that Integrated Device Technology supplied all the parts used by Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA in the prototype ACE machine that it has been showing off; and LSI Logic Corp is rumoured to have used Toshiba Corp as the foundry for its R4000 parts.
