Looks as if Europe has saddled itself with the wrong digital cellular system if the results of laboratory and field analysis of Code Division Multiple Access performance for Personal Communications Services reported by AT&T Corp and Qualcomm Inc are to be believed: they say the Code Division technology provides at least double the area of coverage of the rival DCS-1900 in 1.8GHz to 2.0GHz band for a typical cell site so that operators need fewer than half the number of cell sites required by DCS-1900 to cover a given service are; the DCS-1900 Time Division Multiple Access standard is derived from the Groupe Speciale Mobile cellular standard.
