The European Commission has awarded two strands of its phase two conformance testing contracts for Integrated Services Digital Network and Triple X Data Communications to a four-nation consortium. UK Mator Systems Ltd, EOLAS, the Irish Science and Technology Agency, Comite Electrotechnique from Belgium and the Portugese Correio e Telecomunicacoes are teaming to provide the equipment while testing centres will be built in Ireland and Portugal. The conformance testing has been deemed necessary by the Community to ensure that ISDN does eventually provide one seamless network, across Europe at least. The order is six months late, with one test, for the testing of ISDN Basic interface Net 3 – the terminal adaptor specification – yet to be placed. The Triple X category spans the X28, X29 and X3 protocols which stipulate how stop-start data traffic accesses an X25 packet switched network. A further contract was awarded for testing software tools for the European version of IEEE 488, this time to a Mator, CEBEC, EOLAS and Danish Elektronikcentralen consortium.
