EUROPEAN COMMISSION APPROVES AOL FRANCE JOINT VENTURE

The European Commission has now cleared the joint European internet service provider venture between French communications companies Cegetel and Canal+, German media group Bertelsmann AG and America Online Inc (CI No 3,443). The joint venture will be called AOL/CIS France, and will concentrate on small business dial-up business. The commission concluded that the joint venture would have a combined market share of between 32% and 37%. France Telecom is a significant competitor.
