EUROPE TELLS SPAIN TO CHANGE ANTI-COMPETITVE DTV REGULATIONS

The Spanish government has been forced to modify its laws regulating digital television, after pressure from the European Commission. The previous law required all digital-TV operators to use a decoder specification from Via Digital, a government backed organization. The Commission criticized the policy as anti- competitive, and the government is now proposing open and compatible digital systems.
