The European Commission is reviewing the anti-dumping duties imposed on imports of dynamic random access memory chips from Japan five years ago, which are now due to expire – and there is hope that the 14% duty will be allowed to lapse. Under rules that came into force at the start of this year, the Commission has the right to suspend the duties while it is reviewing the market. We are consulting member states. One factor that would sway the decision towards ending the duties would be if the Japanese companies indicated they would not dump any more, a Commission source said. Some firms have already done so.
