EUROPE GIVES GO AHEAD TO TAXATION ON CALLBACK SERVICES

The European Union yesterday adopted rules to allow national governments to tax callback telephone services offered by foreign companies. The legislation would also allow governments to exempt from taxes services offered by European Union companies to customers abroad. The Commission proposes that foreign firms be required to charge value-added tax on telecommunications services offered to Union customers – putting them on a par with European counterparts.
