Three members of the Esprit GP-MIMD general-purpose supercomputing team, London-based Parsys Ltd, Bristol-based Meiko Scientific Ltd and Soultz, France-based Telmat Informatique SA will today launch a new parallel supercomputer as an offshoot of the European Commission initiative (CI No 1,812): launch will be at the Supercomputing Europe ’92 show which opens today at the CNIT complex at La Defense in Paris, to run until Friday; the new multiple-instruction multiple-data architectured machine is expected to contain a mixture of Intel 80860, Sparc, and Inmos Ltd Transputer chips (Inmos being a fourth member of the GP-MIMD consortium), and will feature the first implementation of the project’s Application Support Interface, which provides a common software environment for applications across machines ranging from personal computers to massively-parallel supercomputers.
