The European Commission is investigating charges that imports of 3.5 floppy disks from the US, Mexico and Malaysia are being sold at unfairly low prices in the European Community, following a complaint by the Committee of European Diskette Manufacturers which alleged that the prices at which 3.5 floppies were sold in the US and Mexico did not permit recovery of all costs plus a reasonable profit margin; imports from the three countries rose 93% to 293m units in 1993 from 152m in 1990, and the Commission decided that there was enough evidence to justify the start of an inquiry and called on third parties for comment, Reuter reports – our comment is that the things still seem outrageously expensive when you actually have to pay for them.
