An EU-funded mobile cloud platform is being used in the construction industry in the hope of making it more efficient.

MobiCloud is a corporate app-store that helps businesses deploy and manage mobile cloud applications for business-critical tasks with the aim of making them quicker and more efficient.

It covers a range of uses in the construction industry, including managing safety permits, access to policies and site procedures and incident reporting, and has been deployed by engineering group Costain as a diary to record events.

Tim Embley, group innovation and knowledge manager at Costain, said: "MobiCloud enables us to explore how mobile and cloud technology can help us improve our operations and deliver better service to our clients.

"Following the deployment of the MobiCloud site diary, we have received a large number of internal requests for new mobile applications, some of which will be rolled out in the coming months."
