Global Ethernet switching market and Ethernet routing market has recorded a year-over-year revenue growth of 28.1% and 17.8%, respectively, in 2010, according to a report by market research and analysis company IDC.
The report said that the enterprise router market in Q410 grew 13.9% compared to previous quarter, and 22% year-over-year.
The research firm said that the service provider router revenue accounted for 75.2% of the router market in Q410, registering growth rate of 18.4% over Q310.
From a vendor perspective, Cisco’s Ethernet switch market share decreased marginally at 66.2% in 4Q10 from 67.07% in 3Q09, but was up from 65.3% from Q409.
IDC vice president of Enterprise Communications Infrastructure and Datacentre Networks Cindy Borovick said the continued market recovery over 2010 is encouraging for the enterprise networking market with most market segments making a contribution.
"The Enterprise Networks Tracker shows that 10GbE switch revenue increased a moderate 4.2% over 3Q10 and a strong 57.3% year over year in the fourth quarter and more than 1.1 million ports shipped in 4Q10 as 10GbE adoption in datacentres and campus deployments continues to accelerate," Borovick said.
