Customers shouldn’t let ERP vendors dictate their business intelligence (BI) software needs says French decision support tools company, Business Objects SA. Commenting on the trend of ERP vendors, such as SAP AG and Oracle Corp, to develop BI tools which analyze and collate the data in their enterprise systems, Tim Kellog, Business Object’s VP of worldwide marketing, warned that customers could end up with several different BI systems, because they may well need separate tools to read ERP modules from different companies. However, Kellog, recognizes that some enterprise players may be just too big to argue with. Describing SAP’s Business Warehouse software as merely competent, Kellog admits that Business Objects has worked closely with SAP to ensure that its software is interoperable with the German vendor’s BW efforts. We go to great lengths not to irritate giants, Kellog admits.
