LM Ericcson Telefon AB has signed up to use Santa Barbara, California-based Advanced Computer Communications Inc’s network access server technology for future use across its product ranges, particularly its AXE switching systems. Ericcson’s Infocom Systems division will use the technology for better Internet access across wireless and fixed networks, enabling it to divert IP Internet Protocol as early as possible, hopefully avoiding the Internet-related congestion problems now plaguing the telephone networks in many countries. Six year-old ACC, which has financial backing from Newbridge Networks Inc, has a line of products for bridging and routing multiple local area networking protocols. It also supports wide area capabilities.
