Erasable Toner sets new benchmark for printing

Toshiba extends sustainable printing with erasable toner technology.

By Duncan Macrae

Toshiba TEC UK Imaging Systems has announced the launch of its e-STUDIO306LP/RD30 multifunction product (MFP), which incorporates erasable toner technology into the everyday workplace.

Although erasable toner itself is not new, previous systems had to rely on specially made paper which was more costly that standard paper, which has so far limited the use of machines using erasable toner. However, Toshiba’s new MFP shows a big step forward in design as it’s the first MFP able to be used with standard copy paper.

Jeremy Spencer, Toshiba TEC’s marketing director, explained: "Users can print and copy as they would on a typical MFP. However, when used paper is fed into the eraser unit it heats the toner and de-colourises the print and provides a blank sheet to use again.

"Just as importantly, each piece of paper can be reused over and over again with a conservative average reuse of 5 times, reducing paper costs and waste by 80%. This dramatically cuts paper usage and saves businesses money – so not only is it good for the environment, it offers an excellent return on investment."

Furthermore, in order to prevent a document being wiped by mistake, or a user realises they need it at a later date, the MFP can convert the content of a document into an electronic file, which is then stored in a document management system.

Toshiba hopes that as more and more of their MFPs are brought into the workplace, the massive amounts of waste paper generated by offices will reduce.
