Epson Inc, Torrance, California is shipping its new 80386SX notebook-sized personal computer and also, has announced a 60Mb removable hard disk drive, scheduled to ship in April, which looks like an attempt to pre-empt IBM’s prototype laptop with a 60Mb disk drive; users can upgrade the storage capacity on their own unit, and NB3s can be plugged into an optional expansion unit; the unit can support an additional 120Mb of removable hard disk storage, two AT slots and an external 101-character keyboard; when the NB3s is connected to the expansion unit, the total weight is 10.5 lbs and the dimensions are 11.7 by 11.2 by 3.7; without an expansion unit, the NB3s weighs 5.8 lbs, runs at 16MHz and has black-on-white VGA graphics, a 3.5 1.44Mb floppy disk drive, and 1Mb of memory that can be expanded to 5Mb; with a 20Mb hard drive, the NB3s costs $4,000, it’s $4,400 with a 40Mb hard drive, and $4,800 with a 60Mb drive; the expansion unit comes in at $700.
