Epson America has launched its next generation of letter-quality printers that incorporate scalable fonts, graphics, a new case design, faster speeds and other new features: the enhanced printer control language, ESC/P 2, makes scalable fonts possible with dot-matrix technology; it is based on ESC/P and is backward-compatible with earlier software; new laser printers include the Epson EPL-7500, equipped with Adobe’s PostScript software and a RISC processor; the EPL-7000 is being shown with a new IC card that enables users to add PostScript software from Adobe, and there are new desktop and tower versions of the Epson EISA Series personal computer; the EISA series will be available in August with a choice of 80486/25 or 80486/33 processors; a new Extended VGA Colour monitor can be used with with Epson’s AT and EISA desktops, and the 14 display unit provides 1,024 by 768 interlaced resolution with a 0.28mm dot pitch; Epson’s line of portable computers includes the Equity LT-286e and Equity LT-386SX laptop models, as well as the NB3s notebook; it weighs 5.8 lbs and uses an 80386SX/16 processor, VGA display, 3.5 floppy drive and 1Mb of upgradable random access memory.
