The 64200 Wingine Windows Accelerator from Chips & Technologies Inc has won early endorsements from two companies: Epson America Inc says that its 486/Wingine personal computer will be the first to incorporate the display controller, which provides a low-cost, system-level means of boosting the speed of Windows applications; the 486/Wingine PC has upgradeable architecture and VirtualCache, a proprietary memory-access method that accesses standard DRAM as quickly as comparable systems access static, to deliver cache-like performance without the high cost; and Santa Clara based Pycon Inc is offering Wingine motherboards that can take 25MHz and 33MHz 80486 and 80486SX CPUs: the WindJet486 comes with 1Mb of video RAM, 0 to 128Kb of secondary cache, 0 to 32Mb of system memory and Windows drivers and supports VGA, Super VGA, HiColor and TrueColor resolutions; no prices were provided.
