Enlighten Software Solutions Inc has teamed up with Fremont, California-based CuraSoft Systems Inc to offer customers a free integration service that will enable users to have internet-based event handling, alerts and application launching. To be eligible for the integration service customers must be using both Enlighten’s Distributed Systems Management product and CuraSoft’s CuraMessage. The integration tool required to enable implementation will be provided to customers for free. Ian Cartwright, Enlighten’s managing director in Europe, describes the partnership as more of a marketing exercise which will mutually benefit ours and CuraSoft’s customers and will help it achieve the worldwide prominence it is looking for. Enlighten put its core Tandem Computers Inc Guardian technology, of which it holds a 40% market share, to the side and changed its name from Software Professionals Inc last year (CI No 2,931) to enable it to concentrate on distributed systems management. It is now looking to establish a reputable image outside of the US and Cartwright says the San Mateo, California-based company will be turning to distributors to aid its expansion and increase employees from the current 57 people. The CuraSoft and Enlighten products will work together, CuraMessage acknowledging a problem has occurred and DSM identifying the specific problem before contacting the appropriate person via electronic mail, fax or pager, so it can rectified. Enlighten says it is targeting large organizations with an enterprise-level infrastructure, and hopes the company will be able to set a trend for other companies in the future. Cartwright said: We can evolve to the situation where most Unix and NT customers will want a single point where they can manage all of their software. The companies forged the partnership in May and have jointly developed the integration product, which will eventually be downloadable from either of their websites. DSM has a starting price of $16,500.
