Siemens Semiconductor Inc is to become a manufacturing source for Enhanced Memory Systems Inc’s enhanced synchronous DRAM chip, which is also manufactured by IBM Corp. Enhanced, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Colorado Springs-based Ramtron International Corp, says the new agreement will help it meet the demand for its 133MHz ESDRAM product as the industry standardizes on 100 and 133MHz SDRAM for its next generation computer appliances. Enhanced claims that its ESDRAM chip delivers the same peak bandwidth and over twice the sustained performance of the emerging Rambus Inc DRAM. Rambus recently completed its Direct Rambus DRAM interface design, and distributed it to its 13 partners, including Intel Corp, which agreed to use Direct Rambus technology for PC main memory back in 1996.
