Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Encore Computer Corp warns that it will have a substantial loss for the third quarter ended October 4: it blames on-going costs and start-up costs associated with the launch of its new storage product line and no doubt in reflection of these problems, it has amended its five-year OEM agreement with Amdahl Corp so that Amdahl now has exclusive marketing and distribution rights to the products except for sales to the US government and in Japan, China and Malaysia, where Encore will have the right to market the products on a non-exclusive basis; Encore reckons that once the development schedules are achieved, shipments to Amdahl could grow to an annualised rate of over $200m.
