ENCORE RESTRUCTURES AFTER STORAGE SALE

By CBR Staff Writer

Struggling Encore Computer Corp says its second quarter results have been affected by the sale of the assets of its storage business to Sun Microsystems Inc (CI No 3,207). The deal is expected to be completed by late September and Encore says it has been concentrating all its energies on the deal, which will give the company a $185m cash injection. According to chairman and chief operating officer Kenneth Fisher, Encore is currently restructuring, and is defining the direction it hopes to take in the future. All that’s left beyond the storage business is some real-time operating systems technology (CI No 3,176).
