EMULEX FINDS USE FOR ARM-BASED FIREFLY CONTROLLER IN LIGHTPULSE FIBRE CHANNEL INTERFACE PRODUCT FAMILY

By CBR Staff Writer

Emulex Corp has launched the LightPulse family of Fibre Channel interface products, all of which use the company’s FireFly controller, which is based on the ARM RISC (CI No 2,740) and designed to support all Fibre Channel topologies. The first member of the family is a Fibre Channel PCI bus adaptor board that can support all three Fibre Channel speeds and is compatible with point-to-point, arbitrated loop and switched fabric topologies, although the company expects most users to implement arbitrated loop. The Light Pulse PCI adaptor costs $2,000 per board for full-speed performance and volume ships are expected in early first quarter 1996. LightPulse is compatible with all common network standards and storage interfaces and can be configured to work with a variety of copper and fibre media. It currently works with Windows NT and AIX, and support for additional environments will be added throughout 1996.
