Costa Mesa, California tape drive specialist Emulex Corp warns that it will incur significant non-recurring charges for cutting its workforce by about 10%, expenses relating to the spin-off of its QLogic Corp chip subsidiary, and operating losses in its second fiscal quarter, leading to a loss of $14m to $16m for the quarter that ended December 26; the restructuring charges include the effects of closing the company’s Italian operations, redundancy costs and other charges related to downsizing of the company’s US operations; it says QLogic has been experiencing a significant slowdown in sales because of very weak conditions in the disk drive industry, which hit sales of its SCSI chips.
