EMEA PC market grew 10.5% in Q3 2010: IDC

Central and Eastern Europe PC market recorded an increase of 43.2%

By CBR Staff Writer

The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) PC market has grown 10.5% year-on-year with PC shipments reaching 27.8 million, across the EMEA region, according to market research and analyst firm IDC.

The firm said after robust trends in 1H10, growth in Western Europe slowed to single-digits, with shipment levels recording a flat 0.5% growth year on year.

IDC CEMA research director Stefania Lorenz said in 3Q10, the PC market in the Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (CEMA) region recorded staggering results, reaching volume of 11.2 million PCs and an increase of 29.4% year-on-year.

"PC boost came from the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region, with volume increase of 43.2% driven by both desktop and notebooks," Lorenz said.

"The four largest countries in the region (Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic) all recorded strong results thanks to demand for notebooks, also pushed by low-end products.

"The Middle East and Africa (MEA) region reported a 12.4% increase year-on-year, which was very close to expectations.

"The three largest countries in the region (Turkey, UAE, and South Africa) all reported double-digit growth. Like the CEE region, MEA also witnessed a stronger rise in notebook sales thanks to demand from both businesses and consumers."

Acer gained the top spot in EMEA PC shipments, accounting for 21.6% of the total market share, while HP gained the second spot with 19.2% market share.

Dell took the third place with 9.2% market share, followed by Asus and Lenovo with 8.5% and 5.9% market share, respectively.

Lenovo registered the highest growth with 61.1%, followed by Asus, Dell, HP and Acer with 26.8%, 12.2%, 5.6% and 3.4%, respectively.
