EMC releases Avamar Business Edition

The new business edition is available with up to 7.8 terabytes of usable, deduplicated backup capacity

By CBR Staff Writer

EMC has released its Avamar Business Edition, which is claimed to deliver all the enterprise capabilities of Avamar, including its inbuilt management simplicity, enhanced network and storage efficiencies.

The new business edition is available with up to 7.8 terabytes of usable, deduplicated backup capacity, creating a backup appliance configured for mid-market customers.

It also avoids the complexities out the acquisition, deployment and maintenance of a next-generation backup and recovery infrastructure.

EMC Avamar helps customers transform their backup with a single-vendor application from EMC, while the new business edition enables EMC Velocity partners to extend the same operational efficiencies and cost savings to many users.

Avamar will solve the challenges associated with traditional backup, provides fast daily full backups for virtualised environments, NAS systems, desktops/laptops, remote offices and business critical applications.

Joining EMC VNXe and EMC Data Domain DD160 systems, the new edition provides EMC Velocity channel partners with the opportunity to sell unified and deduplication storage applications to meet the needs of mid-market customers.

In addition, Avamar Business Edition will also be offered as part of the EMC VSPEXTM Proven Infrastructure reference architectures.

EMC Backup Recovery Systems Division Marketing vice president Shane Jackson said: "Unlike competing mid-market solutions that treat software and storage acquisition and implementation as two separate initiatives, Avamar Business Edition delivers a complete, easy-to-deploy, end-to-end solution that integrates industry-leading backup software and deduplication storage."
