Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based EMC Corp is quite unruffled by IBM Corp’s desperately late entry into the mainframe disk array business, and says it plans to exceed its earlier projections for shipments of the Symmetrix Integrated Cached Disk Array 5000 series during the current quarter by more than 30%; it says that by June 30, it will have shipped 40 of the new systems instead of the 30 models it had forecast to analysts a month ago; it says it is struggling to meet demand, and also said that development of its client-server product is progressing ahead of schedule – it had planned to announce the Unix array in early 1995 but its acquisitions of Epoch Systems Corp and Copernique SA and establishment of a strong EMC-based engineering group means it can now launch the product line in the fourth quarter.
