Data Switch Corp, Shelton, Connecticut has launched a Multiple Architecture Extender that connects with System/370 parallel and S/390 Escon channels and enables high-speed data to be transmitted over standard leased lines – and first taker for the 9000 MAX system is EMC Corp, which is offering it as part of its Symmetrix Remote Data Facility, designed to enable users to store a mirrored set of data on Symmetrix disk arrays installed at a remote site over standard telephone lines. With 9000 MAX, up to eight channels can be Channelplexed over one line or shared between two network connections on one or two T-3, CEPT-3, HSSI or V.35 lines. For on-campus or local networks, 9800 MAX has a single mode or multimode interface for private fibre optic cabling. EMC and Data Switch will jointly offer the line.
