Next month, DeWalt will become the CEO of firewall and anti-virus vendor McAfee Inc. When he is gone, somebody else at EMC will have to take over his multiple roles at EMC, where he is president of customer operations and chief of the company’s content management and archiving business.
The customer operations role is going to Bill Teuber, who was EMC’s CFO for nearly ten years before becoming vice chairman in May 2006. As vice chairman, Teuber already helps EMC CEO Joe Tucci in the day to day management of the company, EMC said.
The content management and archiving duties will be split between senior VPs Mike DeCesare and Balaji Yelamanchili, with the former taking on product management and development, and the latter field operations.
In yet another move made to bridge the DeWalt gap, EMC has also promoted twenty-year EMC veteran Bill Scannell from sales chief for the Americas to EVP of global sales. An EMC spokesman said that DeWalt had been covering this job as customer operations chief. Scannell will report to Teuber, as will the heads of EMC’s EMEA and APAC sales groups.
Teuber is one of a handful of likely candidates to take the throne when Tucci retires or leaves the company, but that is not likely to happen for a little while yet. EMC would not disclose details of Tucci’s employment contract, but yesterday pointed out that a proxy statement it made last year referred to three-year goals set for Tucci.
